Fierce Fashionistas

Most of what she was wearing she found in the store, too, like her olive racer-back tank top by Mustard Seed, and tiny black ripped jean shorts by Rolla’s. Marie added a wine colored velvet bralette underneath the tank, which gave it a pop of color. Her whole outfit gave off a very cool, stylish vibe.

I loved her functional cross body bag that was metallic silver with chain detailing. It was the perfect size to carry her cell phone and other essentials without being bulky.

All of Marie’s accessories were very Coachella/street-style inspired.  She said she gets a lot of her fashion ideas attending music festivals. One of her fashion tricks is combining comfortable T-shirts and tanks with denim and fun jewelry, then adding a hat and handkerchief tied around her neck or wrist. A thick heel sandal, low-heel boot, and bootie are her go-to’s for any of her outfits. They’re comfortable for a lot of walking and dancing while keeping a stylish edge. Marie creatively wears her rings above her knuckle, which also gave the outfit some artistic flair. Marie said it wasn’t intentional, but she had added wild sprinkles of blue color to her muted palette with her electric blue mirror sunglasses and a metal-wrapped turquoise upper arm cuff. The whole look spelled Bad Girl Nirvana!

I “spotted” Juliet Fisher looking fierce in her leopard at the 13.5% Wine Bar in Hampden. She was wearing a black stretch fitted cotton shirt from Nordstrom, and animal print skirt with pockets from Vogue Revisited, a consignment store on Roland Avenue. Juliet is a busy lady. Not only is she a single mom and a judge of the Orphans’ Court for Baltimore County, but she’s also is a practicing divorce attorney and mediator. However, that clearly doesn’t keep her from sacrificing style or taming her wild side. Juliet classifies her style as eclectic because she loves searching thrift stores for original finds; always on the search for something that you won’t see anyone else wearing. No surprise that she’s a fan of vintage, and prints…with a particular penchant for leopard. She also loves bursts of color – red lips and bright nails.

Juliet added some great finishing touches to her ensemble; bright turquoise tin lace earrings – which were a gift from a friend – along with a substantial black hematite beaded necklace. The necklace is a vintage Yves Saint Laurent that she scored at an antique store in Delaware. I was green with envy when I found this out because I am sure she paid a fraction of the price! Her black linen zip wedges were another fashionable steal that she spotted at Target. I couldn’t believe it…I was expecting her to tell me they were from a high-end designer. Mixing some nice pieces with a few inexpensive ones is a secret of mine to showcase a polished outfit while cutting costs. Juliet sure shows she has fashion know-how and is dollar savvy.

I’m a big advocate that fashion shouldn’t be limited just to adults. My daughter, Jolie Zepp, is a fashion muse of mine. Even I am envious of her wardrobe, wishing some of her pieces were in my size.Even before she was seven, Jolie was a creative artist when it came to picking out her clothes. (Editor’s Note: Hmmm. I wonder where Jolie gets that talent?)

She is either an old soul or way ahead of her time, but she has a flair for liking interesting pieces like her authentic Chinese jacket, we found in NYC’s Chinatown. Jolie layered that jacket with another patterned quilted Chinese-inspired jacket found online from Zulily. Oddly, the two worked together beautifully. The colors, fabrics, and textures were riveting.Jolie finished the outfit with a pair of Joe’s Jeans, from the Saks outlet in Arundel Mills Mall, and a trendy pair of black cutout suede booties by Vince Camuto, from Towson Bootery.

As she headed outside, Jolie topped off the ensemble with that iconic Burberry trench. I think a trench is a wardrobe essential for every fashionista (of any age!). And it doesn’t have to be Burberry to be considered a true timeless classic.

FOUND – I found these fun plastic sipper cups at Urban Outfitters. They were too cute to ignore and cheap enough that I had to pick one up as a practical accessory for the beach. They would also make for a great party favor or gift for the aspiring mermaid. A fun little prop for taking selfies, might I add! The collection included a gold disco pineapple, pink shell, and adorable daisy. All of which are bright and festive and even includes a twisty straw!
