John Waters Restrooms Dedication Party

Friends of John Waters descended upon the Baltimore Museum of Art to celebrate with Baltimore’s famed filmmaker/artist/writer at the official dedication of the museum’s newly redone all gender restrooms in his name – something Waters had himself requested when the museum wanted to honor him for his bequest of a large part of his private art collection to the BMA.

In a reception in the museum’s Antioch Court before the dedication, folks had a chance to safely mingle, and personally congratulate John.
Local media turned out in force.
BMA director Christopher Bedford kicked off the event, welcoming the crowd and introducing John Waters.

Waters invited Elizabeth Coffey – also known as Elizabeth Coffey-Williams – to help “christen” the newly-named lavatories. A longtime friend, the well-known transgender activist appeared in several of Waters’ films.
Waters and Coffey signal folks that it’s time to follow them downstairs to the restrooms themselves for the official “christening.”
